FBCC Child Development Center was initiated in September, 1969 as a non-profit ministry of the First Baptist Church of Clarendon. Since that time, the Child Development Center has experienced steady growth and is now one of the largest Child Development Centers in Arlington County.
Director: Secethia Boardley-Davis
Age Range: The FBCC CDC services children age 3 months through 5 years old.
The FBCC CDC does offer Day/Summer camp for children in Kindergarten through grade 4 when Arlington County Schools are closed.
Hours of Operation: The FBCC CDC is open all year from 6:45 am until 6:00 pm, Monday through Friday, with the exception of federal holidays.
Any additional planned closings will be published in advance. In the event of inclement weather or other emergency conditions, FBCC CDC will follow the Arlington County Schools, but reserves the right to close the school apart from ACS if the administration feels the safety of its students and faculty could be compromised. If the school day has begun, parents or guardians will be notified of emergency closings due to inclement weather or other emergency conditions as soon as feasible.
Mission: To provide a quality Christian preschool education designed to meet the physical, mental, social, emotional, and spiritual needs of children ages three months to five years.
Goals: The FBCC CDC recognizes that human beings are active learners from birth who construct their own knowledge from meaningful interactions with the ideas, concepts, materials and persons in their immediate environment and community. The FBCC CDC believes that each child is entitled to responsive and respectful care, attuned to his or her age, developmental abilities, individual temperament, learning style, types of intelligence, experiences and interests. Through a collaborative framework, parents and teachers work together to create an inclusive, safe, and nurturing environment where all children will grow and thrive guided by the philosophy and principles of the High/Scope® Educational Approach to early childhood care and learning in the context of the Conscious Discipline®, a comprehensive social and emotional intelligence classroom management program that empowers both teachers and children based on current brain research, child development information and developmentally appropriate practices. The FBCC CDC also offers a Montessori program.
Governance: The FBCC CDC is governed by a Board of Trustees made up of members of the Church at Clarendon. The FBCC CDC has an active Parents Activity Board.
Exceptionalities: The FBCC CDC promotes, provides and orchestrates with outside programs and specialists meaningful and realistic care and educational experiences for child learners of all ages, all stages of development, all abilities, all learning styles and all types of intelligences.
